VA Claim Status Tutorial: How to Check the Status of Your Benefits
If you have already submitted a VA claim, you may be wondering how to check your VA claim status or your appeal status. Unfortunately, this is often a long review process that can take several months and could require you to check back several times.
For starters, there are a few different ways that you can check the status of your benefits. VA disability claim status can be checked over the phone, online, or at your local VA office. The quickest way to do this is online through the VA website.
Checking VA Claim Status Online
After creating an account and signing in, first navigate to the “My VA” dashboard found at the top right-hand corner.
Once you’re there, you’ll want to scroll down to where you see “See all options to manage benefits.” This page will display a list of ways to manage your benefits under your account.
Click on, “Status Tracking.” This will allow you to track the status of all your claims.
Once there. click on “ Compensation Claim Status” to view the status of all your compensation claims.
Scroll down the page and you will be able to see all your claims regardless of status. Click on a compensation claim you would like to view.
Checking Your Status by Phone
If you prefer to check the status of your claim and VA disability compensation by calling the VA, then the number you should call is 1-800-827-1000. The automated phone prompts will guide you through the process of checking the status of your benefits.
Checking The Status of Your Claim In-Person
If you don’t know the location of your regional VA office, the VA website provides a location finder. Simply enter your city, state, or postal code to find the closest regional office near you.
When visiting the VA office in person to check claim status, make sure to have your identification and claim number readily available so VA staff will be able to look up your claim and determine your status easily.
